The organically certified full-bodied red, Old Roots, comes from the vines of the oldest Xinomavro fields in Goumenissa. Here, the brothers Stergios and Perikles Tatsis grow the grapes using biodynamic philosophies in the unique terroir of Gerakona are of Goumenissa.
After hand picking, the most is wild fermented on steel tanks and then aged in old french oak casks for more than 12 months. It is then bottled without the use of filtration and released no less than a year later.
The wine has an intense dark ruby red colour with purple nuances. Aromatic bouquet of cherry and strawberry on the nose, with hints of tomato, liquorice, bitter chocolate and a whiff of leather and ink. The taste is characterized by strong tannins, where notes of cherry are most prominent. The wine has a long aftertaste where notes of fruit, liquorice and chocolate take over.
The wine can be enjoyed now, though it is still young and crisp, and it can definitely be aged for at least 15-20 years more! the wine has all the characteristics of a grand red, as we know them from the Italian Barolos or Barbarescos, and will continue to develop.
We recommend that you give the wine some time to breathe before serving. For the best experience, decant it a few hours before serving. It keeps fresh for at least a week after opening. A living and intense red wine.
The wine has travelled far and wide in Denmark and Sweden.
